Jujutsu Kaisen Title Sequence
This was a passion project inspired by one of my all-time favourite anime—Jujutsu Kaisen. The show is known for its quick, impactful fight scenes and rich storytelling, and I wanted to capture that same energy in a stylized title sequence. My professor Joe played a huge role in helping me refine my creative direction, pushing me to stay consistent with the visual style I was going for. By the end of the project, I had created a dynamic, high-impact title scene that I was genuinely proud of.

Problem Statement
The biggest challenge was working with puppet animation using still images. I wanted to create the illusion of dynamic movement—camera shifts, character motion, depth—but I was limited to static assets. Getting the camera to move naturally and convincingly toward and around the puppeted images consumed a significant amount of my time. On top of that, I initially went with a styleframe that was too heavy on effects, which made the sequence feel cluttered rather than impactful.
Research and Findings
I studied the actual Jujutsu Kaisen opening sequences extensively, breaking down how they use contrast, silhouettes, quick cuts, and bold typography to create tension and energy. I also researched puppet animation techniques in After Effects, learning how to rig still images with pins and use camera tools to simulate 3D depth. My professor Joe helped me realize that restraint was key—instead of layering every effect possible, I needed to pick a consistent style and commit to it fully.
Solution
I stripped back the over-designed styleframes and focused on a cleaner, more intentional visual language that matched the anime aesthetic. For the puppet animation, I broke each still image into separate layers in Photoshop, rigged them with the puppet tool in After Effects, and used camera movement to add depth and dynamism. The result was a title sequence that felt fast, stylized, and true to the Jujutsu Kaisen energy—bold typography, dramatic transitions, and high-contrast visuals working together.
Two weeks of intensive motion design work—from studying anime title sequences and rigging puppet animations to delivering a polished, high-energy title scene.
